Specialty needles and access needles can also be used to gain access into the body. One version is referred to as Veress needles or insufflation needles, which are used to introduce the insufflating gas into the abdomen. Specialty and access needles are typically used to gain access into an area of the body and act as a conduit for instruments and/or fluids to travel in or out of the body.
